Care and reading dogs on campus

Did you know that there are also dogs working on campus enhancing the wellbeing of students?

Movi, together with Student Life, the Student Union, and the Kennel Club, have brought Care and Reading Dogs on campus to enhance the well-being and learning ability of students, as well as to promote new pedagogical methods. The dogs are part of certain courses at Movi and they can also be met outside the courses in the dog lounges, mainly at O103/104, and occasionally at MaA104.

Please sign up only if you are certain that you can participate. You can sign up for just one or maximum of three meetings. If you cannot make it, please cancel or edit your registration at https://portal.contio.fi/jyu/ (sign up on the page by using university username). If you have problems with cancelling your registration, please contact Jenni Hirvonen (jenni.hirvonen@jyu.fi).

The meetings are held in Seminaarinmäki campus in Oppio building, O103/104. The dogs and their owners work voluntarily and they enjoy what they are doing. The dogs are trained and tested for the reading and care dog activities. All you need to do in the meetings is to show up, pat the dogs and relax. :) Please don't wear any fragrances in the meetings.

Just by its presence, a Reading Dog brings warmth and lightness. The dog is easy to approach and enjoys interaction with humans without ever judging anyone. Reading Dogs are trained to perform their tasks and they enjoy the work they are doing.
