The Centre for Multilingual Academic Communication of the University of Jyväskylä, together with Student  Life, the Student Union, and the Kennel Club, initiated a project in which care and reading dogs are introduced on campus to enhance the well-being and learning ability of students, as well as to promote new pedagogical methods. The project was launched at the Jyväskylä University campus in May 2018.

It is wonderful that the University of Jyväskylä is promoting new methods to enhance student wellbeing! Some students encounter a lot of stress, exhaustion and difficulties in concentrating during their studies. Research has suggested that the presence of a dog can reduce stress in different study-related social situations. In the best-case scenario, a dog can also boost students’ self-confidence and thereby increase study motivation as well. – Hanna Laitinen, Wellbeing Coordinator of Student Life
